Product Details

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of the WWII M31 Telescope, as used on Armored Fighting Vehicles from WWII. The M31 eight power daylight scope and M44 infinity sight were provided for the gunner to allow him to easily track distant targets as well as round impacts for adjustments.

This optic comes to us from the American Armored Foundation, Inc. Tank and Ordnance Memorial Museum. The AAF Tank Museum was a living memorial dedicated to the Tank and Cavalry soldiers of the world. Before 1981 some of the artifacts that make up the AAF Tank Museum was a private collection belonging to Mr. William Gasser. Mr. Gasser felt that his collection would be beneficial in educating present and future generations to the sacrifices made and the technologies gained during war. Therefore, in 1981 the AAF Tank Museum was established as a non-profit charitable organization, and Mr. Gasser's donated his private collection to the Tank Museum. Mr. Gasser is still active as Volunteer Director and Curator of the Tank Museum and his knowledge of military history has been a great asset to the museum. Unfortunately after 20 years of operation it had to close its doors, which is when this was acquired.

The optic is in wonderful condition and does appear to be in working order though all we attempted was focusing the optic. Most of the original paint is still present and in a solid state. The rear plate still retains the “TELESCOPE M31” data plate that has a 1943 date.

The leather bound wooden transit/stowage chest is in solid shape as well but the leather is a little worse for wear, which fortunately aided in the protection of the inner wood structure. There is some material and stitching loss but the overall look of the set is one that would appear to have had long service.

A wonderful piece of tank optic history ready for further research and display.
