No, it’s not a Tank. And yes, it deserves your attention!
While Parisian jeweler to the stars Cartier may be best known in horological circles for its famed Tank watch, the French firm produced — and continues to produce — numerous other watch models that deserve equal billing for their unique and sumptuous designs.
One such collection is the Ronde de Cartier. With its nod to classic, round mid-century designs, it provides a departure from the rectangular forms for which the maison is so well known. Available in steel or precious metals and in both quartz and automatic movements, it’s the perfect alternative to the Tank.
This particular Cartier Ronde dates back to the 1960s and features a 33mm 18k yellow gold stepped case, a mineral crystal, a sapphire cabochon winding crown and a beautiful ‘Paris’ signed white dial with printed ‘Roman’ indices, a ‘railroad’ minute track and a blued-steel ‘sword’ handset.
Fitted to a signed black leather strap with a signed 18k yellow gold deployant clasp, this awesome piece from Cartier’s back catalog is in excellent condition and is a fantastic way to break into the Cartier fold without buying the same Tank that everyone and their mother already owns!
